Winter is Here

I hope you got out for a ride last weekend – the weather was amazing and the trail conditions awesome. It is hard to remember that we are in the middle of winter. But this couldn’t last, and the next few days will be a bit more like what we expect of winter.

But us being in winter means that racing season is just around the corner…

...and recently various customers have started talking about the Sea Otter Classic. This is probably the largest cycling race/event in the world, and we are lucky enough to have it located in Monterey, which is less than a 2 hour drive away. This year it is April 12 – 15. If you want to race, they have everything from cross country to downhill to road races. And even if you don’t race, there are lots of events to spectate at and a huge outdoor tradeshow. Well worth a visit.

The Sea Otter is worth going to because it is such a huge event. But my favorite cross country race is the Napa Valley Dirt Classic, which is the following weekend. The course is a 22 mile loop with lots of fun singletrack. And the event is low key, yet with good organization and hordes of smiling volunteers. I stopped racing a few years back, but still try to go to this race each year.

If I was a downhiller, I’d have to go with the Corral Hollow Downhill Race (what used to be Team Wrong Way’s Groovy Gravity Games) as the local one to go to. Plans are for it to be a 3 race series this year. But watch out if it rains on the day of the race, as the soil there becomes very slick (as you can see in this hilarious 50 megabyte video from 2005).

Bargain of the Month
We have a deal for one lucky person. We have a 2006 Specialized S-Works Enduro (brown anodized color, size large) that we are sending out the door for an $1800 discount! Regular price is $5700, but we are letting it go for $3899. Between being the last 2006 Specialized bike on the floor, and that we (ok, I admit it – it was my fault – so “I”) put a small scratch in the frame, we figured we’d offer this at a great price.
