November Build of the Month - Giant Trance 1

This month we are featuring a Giant Trance 1. These bikes are speced from Giant with a good, cost effective set of components, so not much was changed on this from stock, besides what was needed to fit it for the rider.

As always, click on photos to see high resolution version of the picture…

Here is the Giant marketing speak on this bike:
The modern definition of the “mountain bike,” Trance devours five-hour epics and weekend hammer-fests with the greatest of ease. Designed with a balanced Maestro 4.2 and 4-inches of rear/front travel, the lightweight aluminum ALUXX SL tubed Trance is a hard-core XC bike with a freeride soul.

I don’t fully understand that either… But it is a 4” bike that is under 28 lbs. and at a very good cost-point.

Charles did make a custom shock cover for this bike from a sheet of rubber. Giant does make shock covers, but sometimes it is just nicer to have a Charles’ Special.

Charles also used a special carbon fiber wrapping for a chain stay protector.

This bike (and its owner) was along with us on the October Downieville trip, so I am able to post an action shot of the bike and rider. The shot was taken on Big Boulder Trail as we descend down into the canyon towards Third Divide.
