Sunset is at 8:15PM this Wednesday 08/05/09. Full Moon Rises at 8:07PM Twilight ends and semi-darkness falls right around 9:00pm. Next week on August 12th the Regular Ride launches at 6:15PM!!

This week a few riders are bringing cross bikes for the Ridiculous Ride. We’re certain this is motivated by the full moon and is designed just so the rest of us can be howling as they attempt to find traction amid the summer dust on those skinny little tires. Bandaids will be stocked in the restroom for anyone who wants to join in the insanity. In addition, all the usual rides will go out. See below.

This week’s food fest will feature the insired goodness of chili dogs, plus lots of icy cold beverages out on the step. Patty sez “It’s summer and we’re having a lawn party, except we don’t have a lawn”. Please remember to feed the tip jar to defray the costs of putting out the yummy stuff.

Please remember to put a light on your handlebar and have a blinky ready for the ride back to the shop! CA vehicle code requires it. Don’t get caught out on the streets in the dark! Also, a reminder that we need to be super conscientious about stopping at stop signs and lights, yielding to pedestrians, and operating our bikes predictably and responsibly while on the roads and trails. Let’s be safe and kind out there.

For all the details about what makes each group listed below unique, please refer to this webpage. If your questions aren’t answered there, you can also email us for info at info@passiontrailbikes.com.

All rides start pedaling from the shop: Passion Trail Bikes, 415 Old County Road, Belmont, CA 94002 650-620-9798

All groups will meet back here at Passion Trail Bikes right around dark for the usual story telling & beverage enjoyment. We will have stuff to eat plus chips and fatty snacks and EANABS to pair up with the Devil’s Canyon Brewery’s Full Boar Scotch Ale, Silicon Blonde Ale, and Little Devil Root Beer. We will hang out until about 10pm, so come on down, even if you can’t make the ride! Passion Parties are better with YOU in the mix!

Patty hands out maps to Waterdog Park for the start of the Female Friday rides

On July 24th we enjoyed some great riding in grinning groups of girls on Female Friday. After savoring lots of fun swoopy singletrack, along with a wee bit of coaching for the novices, we returned to the lounge for a gourmet meal prepared by David and Marianne Milburn and managed to fill our bellies and our smiles. Lots of socializing and girl bonding with a bit of show and tell of our amazing collection of bruised bodies! Only mountain bikers really understand this, and it’s so fun to gather and give each other the support that makes us all feel right at home in this wonderful community.

Save the date! Put August 28th in your calendar for the next Female Friday. Rides will probably launch sometime around 6pm. This month food will be catered by the amazing chef Chris Aquino who has planned a fabulous menu with Spanish dishes to delight your tastebuds! Please RSVP if you think you can make this event so we can get a headcount for our shopping expedition by sending Patty an email at patty@passiontrailbikes.com.

4. The Ridge Trail Cruz is September 12th

Saturday, September 12 is our 4th annual Ridge Trail Cruz in the Santa Cruz Mountains straddling Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.

Enjoy this multi-sport event on your favorite trail mode—foot, wheel, or hoof—and choose your distance. Hikers choose from 13 or 23 miles one way (we bus you to the start), equestrians select 10 or 23 miles, and cyclists have the option of an intermediate or advanced ride. It is also looking like there will be an opportunity to shuttle the ride and enjoy 23 miles as a point-to-point ride. (Details are being worked out on this.) There is also a tot- and senior-friendly family hike so you can bring out the kids and grandparents.

Register by August 14 to receive the early bird rate of $40 for hikes and rides, and $20 per family for the family hike. General registration starts on August 15 and fees will be $50 and $25 for family hike. Event attendance is limited so don’t delay! The registration fee includes: a light breakfast, shuttle to the start, volunteer guides, a buffet lunch, water, snacks along the way, maps and more.

The Cruz also raises funds for the Ridge Trail through the Cruz-a-thon. Invite friends and colleagues to sponsor you at $1, $5, or $10 per mile and earn a chance to win great prizes including REI and Mountain Trail Bikes gear, or a 3-night stay for 2 at “Norman Diego’s The Mexican Inn” in Cabo San Lucas!

For complete details and to register, please see the Cruz page on the Ridge Trail website.

Volunteers make the Ridge Trail Cruz run smoothly. We especially need help at lunch and rest stops. Why not support and cheer on event participants for a few hours and then hit the trail yourself? Contact Joel Gartland, volunteer@ridgetrail.org.
