1. Wednesday Wrides: Bring Sunscreen! 6:30pm
Skip to next topic

Sunset is at 8:10pm this Wednesday 05/13/09. Twilight ends and darkness falls right around 9:00pm. Next week the Regular Ride launches at 6:30pm

This week we start gloating at our neighbors in other states where the temps are not so sublime. The National Weather Service is predicting super-pleasant weather all week, followed by HEAT this weekend. So enjoy the mid-week Wrides and put on your sunscreen!

Tomorrow’s rides include Jay leading up a SingleSpeeders ride, and an early FBG ride again like last week, featuring a very short urban clinic, focusing on skills for kids, newbies, and roadies who want to learn the secret MTB tricks for having fun on narrow sidehill strips of dirt. The FBG ride will go out EARLY at 6:00 and return around 7:30, and will not make it to Waterdog. All other rides are per usual as below.

P. L. E. A. S. E. . . . P. U. T. . . . L. I. G. H. T. S. . . . O. N ! ! ! !

Please remember to put a light on your handlebar and have a blinky ready for the ride back to the shop! CA vehicle code requires it. Don’t get caught out on the streets in the dark! Also, a reminder that we need to be super conscientious about stopping at stop signs and lights, yielding to pedestrians, and operating our bikes predictably and responsibly while on the roads and trails. Let’s be safe and kind out there.

For all the details about what makes each group listed below unique, please refer to this webpage. If your questions aren’t answered there, you can also email us for info at info@passiontrailbikes.com.

All rides start pedaling from the shop: Passion Trail Bikes, 415 Old County Road, Belmont, CA 94002 650-620-9798

Riders queuing up for the launch of the Wednesday Wride

The EARLY ride will go out at 6:00 PM.
The REGULAR ride will go out at 6:30 PM.
The SINGLE-SPEED ride will go out at 6:30 PM.
The FBG or Fat Bottomed Girl ride will go out at 6:00 PM.
The WHITE SOCKS ride will go out at 6:30 PM.
The STRAGGLERS ride goes out at 6:45 PM.
For future planning, we have the upcoming start times each week for the REGULAR ride posted on our Community Calendar

Note we may not have leaders for each ride but usually someone knows their way around. All groups will meet back here at Passion Trail Bikes right around dark for the usual story telling & beverage enjoyment. We will have stuff for the BBQ along with some carbo laden side dish, chips and fatty snacks and EANABS to pair up with the Devil’s Canyon Brewery’s Full Boar Scotch Ale, Silicon Blonde Ale, and Little Devil Root Beer. We will hang out until about 10pm, so come on down, even if you can’t make the ride! Passion Parties are better with YOU in the mix!

Volunteers making the first cut during tread construction on the Lake Loop Trail

The next workday is a WEEKDAY! by special request. There is a possibility that City Parks staff will join us. We will work until about 6pm. Come dig a bit in the dirt and help push forward on the new Lake Loop Trail realignment project at Waterdog Lake. The rains have kept the dirt soft so we are hoping for some good turn out in the next week. We still have a long way to go, PLEASE, help out if you can.

We will be working on finishing up brushing the trail corridor and extending tread construction around the lake. The project will involve cutting brush under oaks and through a patch of chaparral, and digging dirt.

WE NEED YOU! Please volunteer a few hours to help build this great new trail!

To get involved and get details on the meeting location, please send Patty an email at patty@passiontrailbikes.com and let her know you can pitch in. She will get back to you with more information on the workday. RSVPs are important so she has enough tools to go around. Thanks so much!

5. Soquel Forest Bike Patrollers Training Monday 5/18, 6pm, Los Gatos
Skip to next topic

We are reenergizing the National Mountain Bike Patrol at the Soquel Demonstration State Forest, and we could use your help!! The patrol is a vital part of the volunteers who love riding there and would like to keep the technical trails at the Demo open for all users. The patrol is the eyes and ears of the managers of the forest. Thom and Ed who work for Cal Fire are the forest managers and they have many responsibilities besides managing the forest. If we can help in educating, assisting, and informing trail users of the Demo their burden is lightened and we get to keep riding awesome trails.

If you’re interested in being a patrol member please come to our training session Monday, May 18th at 6:30PM in Los Gatos at the Community Center. Please email me at daryl@gotocamp.org for more details and to let me know of your interest.

For more information about what the National Mountain Bike Patrol involves please visit this website :
http://www.imba.com/nmbp/index.html

This patrol is generously sponsored by the Responsible Organized Mountain Bikers also known as ROMP. They have generously agreed to reimburse most of the patrollers expenses who complete all the training and perform their duties of patrolling the forest on a regular basis.

Thank you for considering joining this worthwhile and valuable organization.
