1. Soquel Forest Trailwork Sunday 2/1 8:30am

The stewards are leading a trailwork day on Feb 1st. Come on out and work up and appetite for those Superbowl party snacks you’ll eat later in the day by digging in the dirt for a few hours. We plan to meet at 8:30, which is earlier than normal so that we can get out in time to drive home, shower, and watch the game.

In Demo the trail surface is in pretty good shape because of the trailwork that gets done by volunteers. The trailwork crews try to make sure that the water drains off of the trail quickly by sculpting drains and outsloping the trail where feasible. If this sounds like a good thing to you then please come out and help keep it that way. Mud puddles in the middle of the trail suck!

We plan to work on tractor trail from the bottom up by driving cars in and hiking up with tools. Anyone who wants to meet us at the parking lot and then ride in is welcome to show up on bike.

You can sign up here on Trailworkers.com if you want to attend.

See ya there in the parking lot at 8:30am

2. Waterdog Trailwork Saturay 2/7 9:00am

Patty Will be leading another maintenance project in Waterdog Park next weekend, on Saturday morning. Please consider joining her and putting in a few hours to keep our local trails sweet.

Only 200 feet of the Finch Trail remain to be brushed back. The work party will probably start from the top of Rambler and work down to Finch and then continue down Rambler.

Please RSVP to Patty by emailing patty@passiontrailbikes.com to let her know if you can assist and to get details of where we are meeting. She promises strong tasty coffee, fresh bagels, and more to keep the workday fun.

3. People not doing trailwork will be riding their bikes

OK, we know this isn’t really news, but we thought we would disabuse you of the idea that it’s actually winter, and let you know that despite what the calendar says, we are in the middle of one of the best riding seasons anywhere on the continent. Clear skies, cool mornings, warm afternoons, and fabulously tacky trails. Get out there!

If you are lacking a ride group, why not check out what’s up on the NorCal Forum on MTBR and pick a ride that looks like a good fit. If you don’t see anything that’s just your style, consider posting a ride and gathering up some new friends.

4. IMBA still needs letters supporting bicycling in National Parks

Please be a part of our effort to relax rules that are keeping bikes off trails in National Parks. Please use IMBA’s handy online form to submit your comments to the National Park Service regarding the proposed rule change for converting trails to multi-use.

http://imba.com/news/action_alerts/12_08/12_18_nps.html

IMBA worked long and hard on getting this rule change through the Bush administration, and we believe that the Obama administration should agree with this, as it makes sense. Thanks for clicking on the link above and adding your voice to the debate.
