1. Rancho Corral de Tierra (twixt Pacifica/HMB) GGNRA plan meeting Th 1/29 7pm

Rancho Corral de Tierra, is shown in dark green with dots.

The National Park Service invites you to participate in an information sharing workshop about Rancho Corral de Tierra. The session is intended to help the Park Service and the community understand the resources, history, and current uses of the 4,200 acre Rancho, in advance of assumption of management responsibility by the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

The meeting will be held at the Farallone View School multi-purpose room in Montara on Thursday, January 29, 2009, from 7:00 to 9:00PM, and is open to anyone with an interest in the Rancho. The NPS hopes this will be the first of several productive workshops to be held in 2009.

Agenda

  • Discuss the purpose of the workshops: what the NPS hopes to accomplish, what participants would like to accomplish
  • Share background information: comments on the GGNRA general management plan preliminary alternatives and the evolving preferred alternative
  • Additional questions and answers
  • Discuss the next steps to take: future workshops

Other information about the National Park Service’s general management plan for the GGNRA can be found online at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/projectHome.cfm?parkId=303&projectId=15075. You may find the GGNRA’s summary of the comments received about the preliminary alternatives this summer at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/document.cfm?parkID=303&projectId=15075&documentID=25038

If you have questions about the meeting call Lee Ann Ciancetti in the GGNRA at (415) 561-4930, or email her at Lee_Ann_Ciancetti@nps.gov.

2. POST purchases 32 acres on Skyline next to Burleigh Murray State Park

Among other parcels, whose purchase was announced earlier this month, the Peninsula Open Space Trust has acquired a key 32-acre parcel just west of Skyline Blvd, adjacent to Burleigh Murray State Park.

We don’t know the boundaries of this parcel, but you can see Burleigh Murray in the top of the picture for the article below.

The press release on their website includes this information:

32 Acres in Half Moon Bay

POST purchased the 32 acres in Half Moon Bay on December 23 from private owners for $650,000. The land sits near the top of Skyline Ridge and connects Mills Creek Open Space Preserve and Burleigh-Murray State Park. “This strategically located parcel, situated at the heart of 1,600 acres of already protected public lands, shows what a big difference protection of a small property can make,” said Rust. “By protecting this land, we can make sure that recreational trails can be connected, animals can roam freely and people can enjoy uninterrupted views of the Coastside.””

You can read more on POST’s website here.

3. MROSD to aquire 1300 acres connecting Purisima OSP to the Coast

Map of properties currently under public or land trust ownership, plus properties to be acquired

The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space Distric is conducting a site visit today of several properties targetted for aquisition that would connect Purisima Creek Open Space Preserve with Cowell Ranch State Beach, south of Half Moon Bay.

These properties are being purchased to protect them from development, and ultimately provide public access via trails.

The southern area of Purisima Creek OSP where these lands abut, the Bald Knob Area, has some trails but they are currently off limits to bikes. Significant advocacy work would probably need to be done to pressure MROSD to open a multiple-use trail through these lands. Stay tuned for more information. If history is any guide, the public will not be able to access these lands for a decade or more as the district moves through its incredibly slow process of developing a use and management plan for the area.

Details on the meeting can be found in this pdf document on the MROSD website.

4. Sunday “Singletrack Party” ride at Waterdog, weather permitting

Our favorite heckler of PTB staff, John H. has posted a ride for Sunday morning on MTBR. The ride will meet at the shop around 9:00am-ish, ready to roll at 9:30, and return around noon in time for us to open up the doors.

We know that in addition to John, both Charles and Patty will be there, so there will at a minimum be a “moderate-paced goofing-off ride” as well as an FBG ride.

Check in on the forum at the link above if you have questions about whether the ride has been called due to weather.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. For more information on Salmonella, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Web site at http://www.cdc.gov/ or call 800-CDC-INFO (800-232-4636).

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are urged to destroy them but retain the “Best By/Sell By” code found on the back of the package. Consumers with questions or who would like a refund may contact Clif Bar & Company at 1-800-CLIFBAR (1-800-254-3227). Details also can be found at www.clifbar.com.

“With an abundance of caution and given the FDA’s ongoing investigation of PCA, we’re doing all we can to ensure consumer safety and trust,” said Gary Erickson, owner and founder of Clif Bar & Company.
