Michelle Kashima, Chair person for the Share the Road Committee for Orange County Wheelmen has created a petition called Share the Road, which can be viewed and signed by clicking the link below. Because of the help of California cyclists and non-cyclists alike we are gaining signatures on this very important cause. The California Share the Road license plate is in our grasp, but we need more signatures (7,500) to send it to Sacramento and make this special interest plate available for all.

This month we are featuring a Hammerhead HH125. What is a Hammerhead 125, you ask? Good question…
Hammerhead is a small company in Austin, TX that has been facilitating custom geometries for bikes. They use a variety of big name builders (Titus, Ventana, etc.) to put together the bike. This frame is similar to the Ventana El Saltamontes.

If you haven’t been in to the shop recently, you should come by to check out the new products. Lots of new clothes and accessories have arrived. Enough so that the rack of Fox clothing was overflowing.
Here are some of the new items…

I hope you got out for a ride last weekend – the weather was amazing and the trail conditions awesome. It is hard to remember that we are in the middle of winter. But this couldn’t last, and the next few days will be a bit more like what we expect of winter.
But us being in winter means that racing season is just around the corner…

Last weekend, Passion hosted a Winter Solstice Party. We were celebrating the fact that we have gotten to the shortest day of the year, so each day that passes will now mean slightly more daylight (riding time!).
Camille did a great job at sprucing up the place. She took the redwood diorama and turned it into an Xmas tree through some creative use of socks.
Overall, at least 60 people came. I think everyone would agree that it was quite an enjoyable evening.

This month we are featuring a Giant Trance 1. These bikes are speced from Giant with a good, cost effective set of components, so not much was changed on this from stock, besides what was needed to fit it for the rider.

It all started about 30 years ago when Charlie Kelly and a few friends decided to preemptively burn a few thousand calories before sitting down to Thanksgiving Dinner. They called it the Appetite Seminar and rode from the town of Fairfax in Marin on their Klunkers, before such things were called MountianBikes, up over Pine Mountain and down Repack back into town. This ride became an annual event, and for a few close friends, is as much a part of Thanksgiving as mandatory face time with the inlaws and drinking before noon.

Black Friday, the largest shopping day of the year, is upon us. No, we won’t be offering door buster sales at 6 in the morning. We’d much rather sleep in later after riding the Apetite Seminar in Marin on Thanksgiving Morning, and then eating way too much turkey(or perhaps tofurkey) all afternoon.
But that doesn’t mean that the holidays aren’t coming (just that we’d rather spend our free time riding than shopping). So here are some gift ideas for the avid cyclist in your life…
TG Day Edit – Ok, we will open early and have awesome door busters. So, instead of the normal 10am opening time, come in at 9:59 am on Black Friday to take part in the craziness! But make sure you are early, as the door buster deals expire when our normal business hours start.

We had 2 great days of riding at the Soquel Demonstration Forest (the Demo). We had about 11 folks on Saturday, and another 7 Monday. Trail conditions were awesome – that perfect time after we have had enough rain to wash the dust away, but before there is enough rain to make mud. On both rides, we went across the Rodge Trail, down Saw Pit, up the fire road to Tractor, up Tractor, back on the Ridge to Braille, down Braille, and up the fire road and out. Definitely a good workout.
I have uploaded some short video clips to Youtube, and linked to them from here…
