Here is a contest entry for you hard core folks. Santa Cruz will be choosing 1 man and 1 woman to be taken on a ride with Mark Weir and Rachel Lloyd. If you can stay with these folks on a 60-80 mile course with over 10k feet of climbing, you get to keep the Nomad they let you ride.
Details at http://www.santacruzbicycles.com/hr4/.

One of our customers, Tom Rice, wrote up a race report from the Sea Otter. A passion for mountain biking sure comes out. And for those who haven’t raced, it gives some insight in to racing… (note – kind of a long posting…)

Michelle Kashima, Chair person for the Share the Road Committee for Orange County Wheelmen has created a petition called Share the Road, which can be viewed and signed by clicking the link below. Because of the help of California cyclists and non-cyclists alike we are gaining signatures on this very important cause. The California Share the Road license plate is in our grasp, but we need more signatures (7,500) to send it to Sacramento and make this special interest plate available for all.

It all started about 30 years ago when Charlie Kelly and a few friends decided to preemptively burn a few thousand calories before sitting down to Thanksgiving Dinner. They called it the Appetite Seminar and rode from the town of Fairfax in Marin on their Klunkers, before such things were called MountianBikes, up over Pine Mountain and down Repack back into town. This ride became an annual event, and for a few close friends, is as much a part of Thanksgiving as mandatory face time with the inlaws and drinking before noon.

This upcoming Sunday is NorCAMBA’s Ale’s and Trails up at China Camp State Park near San Rafael (Marin County). This is a benefit for NorCAMBA, the mountain bike advocacy group for northern CA. Food, drinks, rides for all levels, raffles, live music, and more. Should be a lot of fun, and all for a good cause. Check out http://www.norcamba.org/ for info.
We have had a sale on Specialized bikes for a few weeks now. Only a few frames and bikes left – all at $500 to $1000 off. Now all the 2006 Giant bikes and frames are going on sale also. 10% off what we have in stock. If you are on the market for a new bike, now would be a good time to go shopping.

Specialized gathered together a few hundred of their favorite bike dealers from all over the US to roll out the 2007 model year bikes and product. The venue moved back and forth between the Silver Legacy in Reno and Northstar at Tahoe. Northstar’s closed to mountain bikes this year, you say? Sure… unless you were a Specialized dealer during the week of the roll out. We were treated to no lift lines, low traffic on the mountain, and some pretty high level attention from the Northstar staff, but that ignores the main topic of this post. Bikes. That’s what I’m bloggin about.

This Wednesday is the summer solstice – the longest day of the year. Turns out that it is not the day with the earliest sunrise (that is a few days before the summer solstice, when dawn strikes a minute or two earlier). Nor is it the day with the latest sunset (which is a few days later, and also a few minutes later than what we will see on Wednesday).
But no matter the exact date – this week gives us long daylight hours for riding without lights. So try to get out and celebrate by doing an evening ride.
We have been keeping beer from Devil’s Canyon Brewing on tap for a while now. Those who have tried it will agree that it is good stuff (Ok, after a long ride, most any beer will taste good – but this beer is good all the time).
They have beer tastings on the last Friday of every month (June 30th for this month) which are open to the public. Starts at 5 (and seems to go late), with live bands and such. Click here to get directions to the brewery.
Maybe this would be a good place to stop after a ride at Waterdog…
