Today, I Am the Truckdriver

And the furniture mover. Yesterday, I rented a stakeside truck in Palo Alto, and drove to Sunnyvale to pick up a workbench that used to belong Hewlett Packard. This heavy steel and wood bench will be my fork overhaul station, with drawers and shelves containing suspension specific tools and small parts. It will be an oily bench, but no metal shavings will be allowed in this area. I am still shopping for a dirty bench for my grinder and dirty vise, and may end up building one if I can’t find something just right.

I dropped off the HP bench this morning at Passion, and Berry and I drove over to Hayward to pick up some slatwall, fixtures, and two 4 X 8 oak pallets. The pallets? They are for a future project in the North Shore display area.

After dropping off the slatwall et al, we hightailed it back to Palo Alto to load up four huge glass display cases. These will be used to build a 7 foot high wall on one end of the clothing area, and will contain all the high end components that frequently get hidden in bike shops out of the customers sight.

The cases each weigh over a hundred pounds, and are frighteningly fragile. We made good use of the Tommy lift on the truck, a fleet of piano dollies, ropes and blankets.
